The late Calvin Parker’s UFO encounter is one of the few UFO events that made the world sit up and take notice.
It happened during a period in the seventies when some of the biggest UFO events took place. Think Travis Walton’s abduction and Terry Lovelace’s Incident At Devil’s Den.
But in the realm of UFO encounters and extraterrestrial experiences, few stories are as riveting and mysterious as the 1973 Pascagoula UFO incident involving Parker and Charles Hickson.
This year is the fiftieth anniversary of the Pascagoula incident, but it has been tinged with sadness. Its main player, Calvin Parker, passed away peacefully at home on August 24th, surrounded by his wife Waynette, and other loved ones
Dr. Irena Scott, a distinguished figure in the field of ufology, sheds light on this intriguing tale in an interview with Aliens Revealed Live.
Dr. Scott’s remarkable background, including her service at the Battelle Memorial Institute, work with the Defense Intelligence Agency, and involvement with satellite photography at the Aerospace Center, adds immense credibility to her insights. In this article, we explore the key events and revelations from our conversation with Dr. Scott, uncovering the layers of this extraordinary encounter.
Setting the Scene: Calvin Parker’s UFO Encounter

To set the stage, the Pascagoula UFO incident unfolded on October 11, 1973, when two shipyard workers, Calvin Parker and Charles Hickson, embarked on a fishing trip in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Unbeknownst to them, this seemingly ordinary evening would thrust them into the annals of UFO history.
What makes this story exceptional is its impeccable documentation, making it perhaps the best-documented abduction report ever.
And with the tenacious research from Scott and British ufologist Philip Mantle, its documentation is just getting better and better.
Scott and Mantle recently released Beyond Reasonable Doubt: The Pascagoula Alien Abduction, which they co-authored and sheds amazing new light on Calvin Parker and Charles Hickson’s Pascagoula UFO incident.
Irena Scott throws light upon the events of that fateful night: “Charlie was about 45 years old, and Calvin was either 18 or 19. They were just regular people, not UFO enthusiasts or believers. They decided to go fishing after work, trying various spots, and eventually ended up at a location marked ‘no fishing.’ Calvin, worried about his car, was reluctant, but they proceeded. Little did they know that this decision would change their lives forever.”
The Encounter: A Terrifying UFO Abduction

As Calvin and Charles cast their lines into the water, their peaceful night took a spine-chilling turn.
What followed was something the two men would never have thought would happen to them.
The truth is, they were non-believers in UFOs, and that made their ordeal even more harrowing.
Dr. Scott describes the moment vividly: “A blue light suddenly appeared, initially mistaken for the police. Calvin even contemplated throwing Charles under the bus to avoid trouble. But it wasn’t the police; it was something far more enigmatic—a UFO. The craft hovered above the ground, emanating a brilliant light. Then, three entities emerged, resembling beings in some way, initially thought to be mechanical.”
The abduction that followed was nothing short of a nightmare.
Dr. Scott continues, “They were terrified and tried to fight back, but it was as though they were paralyzed. The entities separated them, with two of them taking Charles and one taking Calvin aboard the UFO. They underwent examinations or scans of some kind, leaving them utterly shaken and fearful for their lives. The two men were eventually released, but the trauma endured.”
Calvin Parker’s UFO Encounter: Harrowing Ordeals And A Reluctant Witness

Parker and Hickson, deeply traumatized by the encounter, hesitated to share their experience.
“Initially, they decided not to tell anyone,” says Dr. Scott. “Charlie, the older of the two, was in the military and believed in reporting the incident. Calvin, on the other hand, was younger and adamantly against revealing the ordeal to anyone. Eventually, Charlie made the call to the police, who, surprisingly, believed their story due to Calvin’s emotional distress during the call.”
The turning point was the existence of a tape recording of their interview with the sheriff’s department, which greatly bolstered their credibility.
Dr. Scott highlights the significance of this recording: “The recording captured their raw, terrified reactions, dispelling any notion of a hoax. The world took notice as news of their abduction spread globally.”
However, Calvin was profoundly affected by the incident and was unwilling to discuss it for nearly five decades.
Dr. Scott points out, “Calvin instructed Charlie to tell everyone that he had fainted during the ordeal, as he simply could not bring himself to discuss it.”
Living In The Shadows: Calvin’s Quest For Normalcy

After the incident, Calvin Parker sought refuge in a life of anonymity, far from the UFO limelight.
Dr. Scott provides insights into Calvin’s motivations: “He yearned for a normal life—to marry, have children, and enjoy the simple pleasures of existence. He did not want to be labeled as an eccentric or a UFO enthusiast.”
Calvin’s story stands alongside other iconic 1970s abduction cases. They include the Travis Walton and Terry Lovelace cases and, of course, the 1961 abductions of Betty and Barney Hill.
However, the Pascagoula incident, while initially shrouded in skepticism and fear, continues to intrigue the public.
Dr. Scott’s interest in the Pascagoula incident is multifaceted. She shares her motivations: “Two significant factors fueled my fascination with this case. Firstly, I uncovered a plethora of sightings that occurred simultaneously with the abduction. However, fear and harassment discouraged witnesses from coming forward at the time. Now, more witnesses are emerging, shedding new light on the events. And, secondly, a personal connection drew me into this story”.
Calvin Parker’s UFO encounter is a testament to the enduring enigma of UFO abductions. On one fateful evening in October 1973, Parker and his coworker, Charles Hickson, were fishing on the banks of the Pascagoula River. And by the end of the night, they were reporting being abducted by otherworldly beings.
The accounts of their abduction, filled with eerie descriptions of alien creatures, generated both intrigue and skepticism. It catapulted the incident into the annals of UFO lore.
Calvin Parker’s story underscores the profound human connection to inexplicable events and the enduring quest for answers.
In a world filled with unexplained phenomena, these passionate individuals remind us of the importance of preserving and investigating the mysteries that shape our understanding of the world around us.
